Lorsque j’ai trouvé dans un livre l’image que tu peus voir dans le post, elle m’a semblé parfaite. Le quatrième tome sera “La mort des rois”: un cortège funéraire n’est pas une image classique de couverture, mais elle est original et intéressant, je crois!
Parmi les trois petits croquis, j’ai éliminé le troisième: trop semblable aux couverture du tome 2; parmi les derniers deux, j’ai simplement choisi la plus cinématographique.

J’adore cette série ! Et il y a sept tomes, en tout, il me semble !!! Je pense que l’idée du cortège funèbre est superbe, car elle montre bien que si Charles VI était le roi fol, il était, avant tout, le “Bien Aimée”. On sait ainsi que contrairement à la mort de Henri IV, qui se fit dans l’indifférence générale (en France) le décès de Charles VI fut très suivi par son Peuple, qui lui rendit hommage dans tout le Royaume. Ce décès allait aussi permettre à Charles VII de trouver une plus grande légitimité auprès du Peuple, et des nobles, car le Royaume va tâter du Beaufort, un Anglais.
Une petite question, concernant Isabeau de Bavière : pourquoi la représenter le crane rasé ? Cette reine était brune, avec de grands yeux noirs, et était très fière de sa chevelure. Je trouve que c’est un peu dommage de lui avoir enlevé sa chevelure, qui était très belle, et elle même, était très jolie (moins que sa cousine ou sa fille mais très belle quand même) alors que dans le même temps, le roi d’Angleterre est considérablement embelli. Que Jean Sans Peur, qui est plus jeune qu’elle, ne soit pas assidue à son conquête, on le comprends fort bien. Mais Isabeau restait, tout de même, très désirable…Et n’avait pas besoin d’aller chercher parmi les valets pour assouvir des désirs sexuels qu’elle ne pouvait dans son mariage accomplir.

Il faut rajouter à tout cela les lois fondamentales du Royaume…! Seul un prince FRANCAIS peut obtenir le trône ! Si le sacre fait le représentant de Dieu sur Terre, le sang de Saint Louis fait le roi !
Quant à la trahison de Isabeau, il convient de se souvenir que Isabeau avait été épousée par Charles VI sans dot. Autrement dit, en cas de décès de son époux, le bon Charles, Isabeau se serait retrouvée sans douaire (pas de dot, pas de douaire) ou dans un couvent.
A cela il faut rajouter les liens de sa famille avec la bourgogne. On peut être sur que son entourage lui enjoignait de rejoindre le parti de Jean Sans Terre, et plus tard de Henri d’Angleterre (son frère Jean (?) est à la Cour), pour conserver le soutien familial, mais aussi, et surtout sa position. Charles VII l’aurait il doté pour qu’elle puisse acquérir un douaire, ou Charles VI l’aurait il épousé dix jours plus tard (le temps d’obtenir la fameuse dot) qu’Isabeau aurait, sans aucun regret, pris le parti de la France.
La mort de Henri IV (ou V?) d’Angleterre et de Jean Sans Peur sont des malheurs pour Isabeau. Quand on nait femme, et que l’on ne possède rien d’autre que son titre – et la protection du sacre – seules les armes et le droit peuvent faire la différence. On peut comprendre qu’Isabeau ait cherché à assurer sa survie, via le traité de Troyes, et qu’elle ait fortement douté des capacités militaires de son fils, si jeune, si empoté aussi, et incapable de lui octroyer un statut de reine jusqu’à sa mort.

Revenons sur Isabeau. Elle était très belle, en effet. D’une beauté brune qui n’était pas classique, mais piquante, charmante… Nous possédons son gisant qui la représente à une vingtaine d’années. Superbe jeune femme…
Dans le Trône d’Argile, nous la rencontrons alors qu’elle a eu déjà 12 enfants, à près de 50 ans. Même si elle ne nous semble pas vieille, selon nos critères (voir Madona qui, à plus de 50 ans, est toujours une star), à cette époque c’est déjà une femme agée.
Nous savons qu’elle était devenue obèse. Elle se déplaçait la plupart du temps dans un fauteuil roulant. Sa beauté n’était plus.
Pour sa chevelure, j’avoue ne pas savoir, mais à force de porter ces coiffures lourdes et encombrantes, je doute que ses cheveux soient restés aussi beaux. Ils devaient de toute façon être devenus blancs…
Voila. J’espère avoir répondu à votre question. De toute façon n’oubliez pas qu’il s’agit, malgrès tout, et malgrè les nombreuses recherches que nous faisons, d’une interprétation de cette période. Il existe d’autres options…

Autre détail, je ne pense pas que le roi d’Angleterre soit vraiment embelli… Nous ne possédons que très peu de tableaux de lui, et Théo a merveilleusement utilisé ces représentations. Il leur a juste rendu la vie…
Il est vrai que sous le joug anglais de Bedfort (et non son oncle Beaufort qui, lui, s’occupera surtout de la régence en Angleterre), le peuple en France se sentira français pour la première fois… C’est la naissance de leur identité nationale.
Mais c’est une autre histoire (voir tome 5).

au fait, si 7 tomes il doit y avoir (?), à quelle période / date la série s’arrêtera t’elle ? là, on voit arriver la Jeanne, c’est chouette de nous la faire arriver comme ça, à petits pas ….
les dessins sont magnifiques, très joliment colorés, les textes fouillés et intelligents, ils traduisent des personnalités complexes et c’est sans doute quelque chose qu’il est difficile de faire passer en BD .

J’avoue avoir été trompé par un ouvrage récent – la “reine violée” de Chantal Touzet -qui présente Isabeau (Elisabeth apparemment, devenue “Isabelle” en France, et “Isabeau” pour le “Peuple”)sous un jour différent (elle est toujours belle, en dépit desdites grossesses, à la veille de la signature du traité de Troyes ; elle circule assez librement)
Mais bon, je suppose que l’auteur(e) a pris quelques libertés avec l’Histoire, puisque Isabeau en est le personnage principal.
Sinon, ce que j’aime – j’adore ! – dans cette “série” c’est le fait que l’histoire est bien et les dessins aussi. Il y a d’autres séries BD dont j’apprécie les desseins, mais pas l’histoire, et d’autres aussi dont l’histoire est superbe mais les desseins affreux ou difficiles pour moi en tout cas.
En ce moment, hormis “le trone d’argile” je lis “les aigles décapités”. C’est excellent, et je trouve qu’il y a le même niveau – même si j’ai une préférence pour le trone – de qualité de dessin et d’écriture. Là aussi, les auteurs prennent quelques libertés avec l’Histoire, mais c’est très ressemblant aussi : mention spéciale pour le personnage de Saint Louis…Et la belle reine Marguerite.
J’ai beaucoup aimé, dans le trône, le personnage de Charles VI. C’est très bien. Quand il “sème” les gardes, c’est très drôle, et ses traits sont superbes !
Concernant Henri (V ou IV ?) d’Angleterre, certaines “chroniques” le présentent comme un chef de guerre au visage constellé de cicatrices, entailles d’épées, et autres sympathies. (Guerre oblige ?) Donc il ne devait pas être très beau à voir. Certes, les autres monarques et “nobles” ne devaient pas être mieux lotis.
Quant à Jeanne…Je n’ai pas pu m’empêcher de me dire, en lisant la fin du troisième livre, “il faudrait un miracle…Et IL VA Y EN AVOIR UN !!!!”
La France a quand même une sacrée chance !!! Disparition prématurée du vainqueur (Henri) et arrivée de Jeanne ! Coup de pouce divin faut croire !!! La “providence” je n’y crois pas souvent, mais là, c’est quand même sacrément crédible !
J’ai aussi beaucoup aimé le “point de vue” du “Peuple” dans la description du traité de Troyes. Vous êtes vous servi du “journal d’un bourgeois de Paris” et de “Louis XI une jeunesse dans l’inconnu” pour “décrire” la vision du “Peuple” ? (A Paris tout au moins)
